How to automatically rename photos in Lightroom

Video Tip #011. 

This video tutorial shows how to create and apply automatic renaming scripts for selected photographs in Adobe Lightroom. This makes the process of applying meaningful names easy.

It is possible to rename photos on different stages of Lightroom workflow:

  1. On import stage. In this way you never see the original camera naming, and you Lightroom Library always operates with custom-made names. All imported photos will be renamed.
  2. On develop stage. This option is similar to previous, but you’re more flexible in renaming, being able to select a group of photos for renaming.
  3. On export stage. In this case your Library always works with original camera named images. The new naming will be only applied to the exported group of photos.
